Are you passionate about putting women’s voices centre stage? Do you believe in the power and potential of working with women’s stories, past and present, to challenge gender inequality today? Are you up for the exciting challenge of being a Trustee of England’s only women’s museum?

We’re the East End Women’s Museum, a small charity (no. 1188775) that researches, shares and celebrates stories of East London women. In the next year we’ll open a new building in Barking town centre – a base for our new exhibition, learning and engagement programmes, and set to welcome some 12,000 visitors a year. We have a proudly community-centred ethos, putting local audiences at the heart of our decision-making processes, and strive to create welcoming, relevant and inclusive experiences.

We are now looking to grow our Board of Trustees, to ensure we have the capacity, diversity and range of skills to guide the charity at this pivotal time.

We are especially keen to hear from people with experience in the following:

  • HR

  • Safeguarding

  • Museum practice

We are also keen to hear from people without the above experience, but who feel they have something to contribute, as a ‘General’ trustee. You are welcome to apply in more than one category if you feel that is applicable.

We’re looking for Trustees who can commit to approximately 8 hours per month. In return, you will be part of a growing charity and museum, help to advance women’s equality, and work alongside a great team. You’ll also be able to develop your experience of governance and broaden your CV. Please note that as a charity Trusteeship, the role is voluntary and therefore unremunerated.

EEWM welcomes applications from all. We are striving to enhance the diversity of our Board, and are especially keen to hear from people who are ethnically and culturally diverse and who experience racism in our society, LGBTQ+ people, and D/deaf and disabled people.
